Met Gala 2014

The stars really pulled out all the stops this year at the Met Gala 2014. What is the Met Gala? The Costume Institute Gala, known as the Met Ball or Met Gala, is an annual ball that celebrates the annual opening of the Metropolitan Museum’s fashion exhibit at the Costume Institute. The red carpet evening is hosted by Vogue magazine. It is widely regarded as one of the most exclusive social events in New York and one of the biggest fundraising nights of the city with a reported nine million dollars raised in 2013.  The affair, attended by personalities from the arts, fashion and entertainment, has been held at the Met since 1971 and is considered to be the fashion industry’s premier annual red carpet event.

Each year the event has a theme, and includes a cocktail hour and a formal dinner. The gathering rivals the West Coast’s Vanity Fair Oscar Party, which is said to have more “star power” but less fashion panache. In 2014, the ticket costs $25,000 for each guest.

Oscars Red Carpet Recap

Well, Hollywood’s biggest night is finally here, the 86th Academy Awards! This is also a huge night in the fashion industry, where the stars are scrutinized closely for their choice of wardrobe.

And without any further a due, here are the Best and Worst dressed. We will begin with the worst-dressed listed from bad to worst…

Pharrell Williams- first, the crazy hat at the Grammy’s and now this tux-shorts. At least his legs are moisturized :-). The pair just look very awkward. Her pants look way too small for her.

Pharrell Williams, Helen Lasichanh

Sally Hawkins- the look on her face is as if she is apologizing for her choice of gown. It is not a bad looking dress, it just looks matronly and ages her a bit.

Sally Hawkins

Angelina Jolie- And speaking of matronly… Oh my gosh! This dress does NOTHING for her… I don’t get it… smh

Brad Pitt Angelina Jolie

Julia Roberts- in this Givenchy gown just looks far too large for her. It should be cinched more everywhere. Huge miss!

Julia Roberts

Julie Deply- wrong color, too pale, it washes out her much too pale skin. If it was not for her red lipstick, she would have been a total washout.

Jenny Packham

And now for the WORST-dressed of the entire night… drum roll please……… Liza Minelli- Need I say anything to help make my point?  Just look at her shoes. SMH

Liza Minnelli

Now, for the best-dressed of the night… Absolutely beautiful…

Rent the Runway

I heard of this cool concept recently that I wanted to share with all of you. Rent the Runway! Rent the Runway is a membership-based website that rents high-end designer apparel and accessories on a 4- or 8-day basis. The company was founded by two Harvard Business School graduates, Jennifer Hyman and Jennifer Carter Fleiss. The dresses are being rented anywhere from $20.14-$250.00. These are dresses that are being sold at a retail price range from $250.00 – $2,000.00.

Here is how it works…

1. FIND IT: Search their collection of dresses and accessories for your rental date (recommend 1–2 days before your event), then filter by designer, price, length — even style — to narrow down your favorites.

2. BOOK IT: Once you’ve selected your items, book for a 4-day or 8-day rental period. We also offer all the essential extras like Spanx and Fashion Tape.

3. WEAR IT: Your order will arrive by 8PM on your delivery date via UPS (or by courier in NYC). Time to slip it on and shine!

4: RETURN IT: After your night out, send back your items in the easy pre-paid envelope provided — we’ll take care of the dry cleaning. Don’t forget to upload a photo and review.

Holiday Trend Alert

Shine On! With the party season in full swing and holiday invitations coming in, your social life has never been so busy with festive celebratory soirées and fun. Now is truly your time to shine! Here are a few runway inspired looks to help you see what I’m talking about. This season, designers like Oscar de la Renta and Vera Wang brought out the bling and put a spotlight on supercharged sparkle. It was full of crystal clusters, sequins, gems and elaborate embellishments. Everything from statement sweaters to trendy toppers and fancy footwear got the glam treatment. Whether you choose moderation or decide to go all in, no seasonal soiree is complete without a dose of holiday sheen. Choose one or two of these shiny pieces and match it up with your everyday wardrobe pieces. Just like the designers did in these runway looks; take note of the shoes, jackets, beanies worn with the bling out pieces. You can do that too! #holidaytrendsalerts
